Radiology

The Department of Radiology at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center is staffed by nine Full Time Attending Radiologists, two Part time Attending Radiologists and the Chairman.
All of the Radiologists within the Department are certified by the American Board of Radiology and some of them are doubly boarded as well.

In addition, all the Attending Radiologists have trained in fellowships.  These Fellowships include Body Imaging, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Radiology, Interventional Radiology and Angiography, Pediatric Radiology and Mammography, as well as Muscoskeletal and Neuro MRI and Neuroradiology.

The Department has recently become almost entirely digital in its technology.  We have Digital Radiography rooms, Digital Fluoroscopy rooms, and of course all of our Interventional Radiology/Angiography, CT, Ultrasound, MRI and Nuclear Procedures are all digital.

The Department has high field strength, 1.5T MRI system and two high speed multi-slice spiral CT scanners.  The Department is also digital with respect to imaging.  This presents itself as PACS, which stands for Picture Archival Communication System.  This translates to the fact that once a study is obtained images are immediately transferred to our PACS Network and the images can be visualized by any Physician in the Radiology department for interpretation and by any referring Physician at a PACS monitor located throughout the Hospital.

The Department provides all the routine diagnostic procedures, which includes Bone Mineral analysis studies.  Additionally, the Department provides for Interventional Breast procedures including Stereotactic needle Localizations, and Biopsies.  We also have been increasing our volume of breast ultrasounds due to the nature of the sensitivity of breast ultrasound.  We have recently acquired a digital mammography unit which is live and in-serviced for use.  Digital mammography is infinitely more sensitive for diagnostic and detection of small early breast lesions.

The Department also provides the complete gamut of Interventional and Angiographic procedure performed by our Interventional team which provides coverage 24 hours, 7 days a week.  Our Interventional Radiologists are available for consultation to schedule these procedures on a regular basis.

The Division of Nuclear Medicine provides all of the current state of the art Nuclear procedures and Cardiac Nuclear procedures which are performed jointly with the Department of Cardiology.
Attending Radiologists will frequently cover the Emergency Room for early evening hours and after that time, digital studies are sent to VRad Nighthawk services for a wet reading.  All of the studies which are referred to VRad are reviewed for accuracy of interpretation the following day by our Attending Radiologists.  The studies are segregated by specialties in their review.  Attending Radiologists are available int he Main Reading Room on the 4th Floor and in the Imaging Reading Area on the 3rd Floor for consultation and recommendation as to how to work up and evaluate patients timely, costly and efficiently.

The Office of the Chairman is also available as a Resource for Residents and/or Attending Physicians to help facilitate studies in a timely, efficient and costly manner.
Any questions which may arise from review of this Website information can be brought to the Chairman's attention at extension 5271.  The questions will be addressed and answered timely.
