Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology delivers comprehensive eye care from routine checkups to sophisticated laser and surgical procedures.  There have been many advances to eye surgery in the last few years and Brookdale has the fellowship trained staff and equipment to perform them.

GLAUCOMA:  Sanjay Smith, MD
New micro-noninvasive procedures to control eye pressure are available when laser and medication do not help.  These procedures require less healing time and fewer significant side effects.

CATARACT:
There are many new intraocular lenses available to help patients see well without glasses.  There are lenses for astigmatism as well as multi-focal lens for both distance and near vision.  These lenses are used with our small incision surgeries that do not require sutures.

RETINA-VITREOUS:  Navid Hakimian, MD
All aspects of retinal-vitreous disease are treated including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachment, and retinopathy caused by sickle cell and prematurity.

OCULOPLASTICS: Dominick Golio, MD
All oculoplastic procedures including: ptosis, tearing, and lacrimal duct obstruction, trauma, orbital fractures and cosmetic procedures.

CORNEA:  George F. Hyman,  MD
Diagnosis and treatment of all corneal diseases including surgery.

COMPREHENSIVE:  George F. Hyman,  MD
General ophthalmologists on staff evaluate all aspects of eye care including glasses, infections, surgery for diabetes and glaucoma, and cataracts.
