Mark Toney Introduces the new Chief Executive Officer for Brookdale, Dominick Stanzione

Dominick Stanzione has been appointed the new President and CEO of Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center.  He joined us on August 1st to replace Mark E. Toney, who is stepping down after five years in the position.


“Mr. Stanzione is the perfect candidate to take the reins of Brookdale at this critical juncture,” said Dr. Alex Rovt, Brookdale’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees.  “His extensive background in healthcare management will help smooth the transition as we integrate into One Brooklyn Health System.”  Dr. Rovt added, “I also want to thank Mark Toney for his dedication to Brookdale and his leadership in the separation of Brookdale from the Medisys Health System.”


Mr. Toney said of his stepping down, “I am honored to have been a part of the transformation.  I believe that I am leaving Brookdale with a great future and in capable hands.”


Dominick Stanzione, FACHE, previously served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Maimonides Medical Center since August, 2011.  Mr. Stanzione has over 30 years of senior management experience in community hospitals with large teaching programs.

Originally trained and educated as a Physical Therapist at SUNY Downstate, Mr. Stanzione went on to earn a Master in Health Care Administration Degree at New York University.  He then began a series of progressively more senior roles at several hospitals in the Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn, Queens and at St Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers of NY.  He then moved on to lead the Bon Secours Charity Health System as it’s CEO for eight years.


Prior to Maimonides, Mr. Stanzione served for three years as President and Chief Restructuring Officer at Long Island College Hospital (LICH), which was purchased by SUNY Downstate Medical Center.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has received numerous awards and recognitions.


The oldest of three children, Mr. Stanzione grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School.  Married for 38 years, he currently lives in Monmouth County, NJ with his wife Susan.  They have three adult children.
